The Annual Weld Party To Celebrate The Welders Past, Present And Future

By:

The Welders-Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new plays-will host its annual summer party, The Weld on Saturday, July 21 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Colony Club (3118 Georgia Ave NW, DC).

This year's celebration takes place as the second generation of Producing Playwrights passes the halfway point of their leadership. Their fourth show, Brett Abelman's Switch finished its run in June, and there will be three works produced before a new company of playwrights take over in January 2020.

The Weld will celebrate the history of the company, the current generation and the future. Artists, audiences, families and friends all are welcome to join for a family-friendly chance to hang out, learn about the work of the Welders, play games and eat complementary slices of homemade pies. Plus, attendees will have a chance to commission tiny plays from Welder playwrights.

The Weld is open to all but reservations in advance are preferred. The event is pay what you want with suggested donation amounts. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible and go to supporting the upcoming fall production of Hannah Hessel Ratner's In This Hope: A Pericles Project and the two final Welders productions coming in 2019: Rachel Hynes' collaboratively built LadyM and Annalisa Dias' theatrical ecosystem the earth, that is sufficient, a play about hope.

"I'm thrilled to have a chance to meet with so many members of the Welder community," said new Creative Producer Laley Lippard. "Having started working with the company this summer, I already feel welcomed into this unique family of creators. Having a chance at The Weld to join in traditions of summer celebration feels very special."

Don't miss this fun evening of friendship, celebration, and pie.
