Pointless Theatre Presents A VERY POINTLESS HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR

By:

Pointless Theatre is thrilled to announce their second production of the 2015-2016 season. This December, audiences entering the Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint (916 G Street NW) will discover a winter wonderland with a distinctly Pointless twist: A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular, The North Pole's Annual North Pole Talent Show.

It's Christmas Eve at the North Pole, and Santa's elves are off the clock and ready to cut loose. After Santa has left to deliver presents around the world, the elves and Mrs. Claus get together and throw a huge party and talent show to celebrate their one night off a year. Visually, the piece is influenced by classic claymation films of the 1940s and 1960s.

Though it draws inspiration from these family-friendly films, A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular, helmed by director Frank Cevarich, aims to be just as naughty as it is nice. Alongside a duo of talking toys, including a depressed, overstuffed elephant and a whiskey-guzzling Jack in the Box, Mrs. Claus plays host to a bawdy and rollicking showcase. This is a winter cabaret for adults; an irreverent celebration of the holidays featuring puppetry, improv, and original music devised in process with the cast and performed by a live funk band.

This will be the second consecutive year that Pointless is presenting A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular, and they hope to make each year's production a unique and one-of-a-kind experience that stands on its own.

"Our goal is to create a non-denominational celebration of the winter season that is sincerely festive and irreverent towards traditional holiday entertainment, an alternative to the traditional holiday fare" says Pointless Co-Artistic Directors Matt Reckeweg and Patti Kalil. "We are delighted to return to the North Pole with new vision, new faces, a fresh new slate of acts, and to take even more risks."

Pointless Theatre is the 2014 recipient of the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company, given by the Helen Hayes Awards and theatreWashington.

A Very Pointless Holiday Spectacular runs approximately 80 minutes with one intermission. The production begins previews on December 2, opens December 6, and runs through January 2, 2016.

Tickets start at $17 for students and seniors, and $22 for general admission. PWYC December 2 - 3. To purchase tickets and for more information, please visit pointlesstheatre.com.
