Luis Salgado Continues To Expand His Creative Presence In Latin America Puerto Rican artist and Broadway performer Luis Salgado (ROCKY, Women on the Verge...) returns to Latin America after making his European directing debut with ON YOUR FEET as the associate director to Jerry Mitchell. Salgado's production of In The Heights at GALA Theatre in Washington D.C recently took home 9 Helen Hayes awards IncludIng Outstanding Direction and Choreography. He now embarks to South America to direct/choreograph a very special production, ELLA ES COLOMBIA; A fable filled with fantasy that is inspired by the essence of the Colombian people, music, artists and folklore.

"It's magical to be celebrating and learning about Colombia's potential inside it's flora and fauna, that merges so fluidly with its' cultural traditions, painters, writers and musicians" said Luis Salgado who will be supported by a team of local artists to collaborate and create the show's vision with, what Luis says is "an incredible composition of imagery through projections in various capacities to create unique world's for the audience. The new musical is produced by the MISI Producciones led by María Isabel Murillo (aka Misi), who also serves as one of the composers.

"This is a tribute to the country from its origins to the present, taking the most symbolic of its music, dance, plastic arts and literature, and reinventing it through an avant-garde language of the 21st century. We aim to put Colombia on the theatrical stage in a call for the protection of natural resources and unity, which seems to me of enormous relevance, "explains María Isabel Murillo (Misi), adding "The show also tells the love story of Aluna and the Wind. Aluna has the mission to maintain the unity of all that exists utilizing the magic threads of her voice."

The show features Natalia Bedoya (Aluna), Diego León Hoyos (Mamo), Paula Alejandra Calvo (Cumbia), Ana Beatriz Carrillo (Flaminga), Kristian Polo (Serpentin), Carlos David Salazar (Egos), Adrian Amaya Solano (Rataplan), Gabriela Peña Camacho and Carlota Lopez Ricardo both as (Little Aluna). The Ensemble includes a talented cast of 20 local performers that will move to the sound of a 26 piece orchestra. The Music Director is Leonardo Palacios, Special music arrangers are Victoriano Valencia and Larry Hochman. Lighting Designer: Humberto Hernandez, Set Designer: Tijana Bjelajac, Projection Designer: Julio Lucena, Costume Designer: Juliana Reyes Berrio. The show will be stage managed by Maria Jose Ferrucho.

"It's a dream to be in Colombia working alongside MISI, she is the home and heart for musical theatre in Colombia, I feel honored to partner with her and her creative team", said Salgado. Earlier this year Salgado directed and choreographed TO BE OR NOT TO BE - A SHAKESPEAREAN EXPERIENCE devised for R.Evolucion Latina and the Tony Award winning musical Ragtime at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, highlighting the relevance of this turn of the century story in today's time and society. "Since 2011 my love affair with the Latin American desire for musical theatre has grown with Salgado Productions and R.Evolución Latina expanding the potential of exporting and importing talent, products, that includes the creative conversation, training of artists and new work" concluded Luis Salgado.
