The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts calendar of events for the fall months has just been released. All events are subject to change without notice. Free performances are held each evening at 6 p.m. on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.

1 p.m. Meet in the Hall of Nations
Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell FOR ADULTS!

From pliés to pirouettes, discover how it feels to dance as Suzanne Farrell leads this unique and inspirational movement class for non-dancers presented by Explore the Arts. Leotard, leggings, ballet slippers, and ballet skirt are encouraged but not required. Please note: due to the structure of this ballet class, no late entry will be permitted once the class has begun.

Cate Blanchett stars as Blanche DuBois in the U.S. premiere of Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize–winning drama, directed by Liv Ullmann. With a story that pits the false gentility of the southern Belle Blanche against the earthiness of her working class sister Stella and her short-tempered brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski, A Streetcar Named Desire is a collision of character that keeps audiences holding on tight from beginning to end. Spunky 9 year old Ana, and her imaginary friend Amazing. Voice, dedicate their lives to saving the barrio and all who live in it. But Ana, who lives with her abuelo (grandfather), is growing up. She misses her mother, who is a soldier in Iraq, and she will soon have to make the decision between the grandeur of her fantasies and the little miracles that happen every day. This funny and warmly truthful play will make your heart sing. Age 9 and up. Through November 15.

Tragedy and comedy collide when two sets of performers - one an opera company and the other a commedia dell'arte troupe - are forced to perform together. The results are cleverly amusing and surprisingly touching in this brilliant jewel by Richard Strauss for lovers of opera and theater. The production is conducted by Andreas Delfs and features Iréne Theorin, Pär Lindskog, and Lyubov Petrova, Sung in German with English supertitles. Through November 13. Note: Supertitles may not be visible from the rear of the orchestra.

Barbara Cook's Spotlight: Christine Ebersole

A Tony Award® winner for her roles in Grey Gardens and 42nd Street, Christine Ebersole is one of Broadway's leading ladies. The New York Times says Ebersole possesses an almost haunting singing ability, approaching her music "obsessed with feelings that run around her head so hard they somehow come out sung, clarion and unadorned, practically in spite of herself."

KC Jazz Club: STEFON HARRIS AND BLACKOUT

The Kennedy Center

Vibraphonist-composer Stefon Harris has been praised for playing "unadulterated jazz that found the sweet spot between challenging and accessible, grooving hard and swinging harder" (Ottawa Citizen). He'll perform with his band Blackout music from Urbanus, his upcoming first album on the Concord label, a hybrid of acoustic music and progressive sounds.
