Imagination Stage Presents INTO THE WOODS This Weekend

By:

Imagination Stage's teen performance ensemble will perform Into the Woods, the hit musical, this weekend, March 6-8, 2015 on The Lerner Family Theatre stage. Into the Woods, a magical story which intertwines our favorite fairytale characters, features an original story by James Lapine with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Into the Woods runs in Imagination Stage's The Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre March 6-7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, and may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org, at the Imagination Stage box office, or via phone at 301?280?1660.

"Into the Woods addresses a multitude of themes, but the production focuses on the main characters' journey from a romanticized idea of how to achieve goals and solve problems into a realistic idea that there are no shortcuts," says Into the Woods Director Jay D. Brock. "To symbolize this in the performance design, the lead character's costumes will gradually evolve from fantastical (at the top of the show) into a much more simplistic and realistic look (by end of the musical)."

Comprised of 17 students from across the DC metro area ranging from grades 9-12, the Spring IStage Performance Ensemble is an audition-based program giving young artists the opportunity to bring a production from page to stage in a single semester. This performance ensemble, the newest ensemble offered at Imagination Stage, rehearses three days per week for several hours at a time. The directorial staff has a vested interest in getting to know each student personally, and in turn holds high expectations for every performer. This opportunity allows them to apply their technical skills to a performance environment.

Directed by Jay D. Brock, Into the Woods is designed by an entire team of professional designers, including Dustin Merrill (Music Director); Shawna Walker (Choreographer); Eric Abele (Costume Designer); Jason Arnold (Lighting Designer); and Rachel Prell (Props Designers). It will be performed on the same set Samina Vieth created for Imagination Stage's professional production Wiley and the Hairy Man which runs through March 15, 2015.
