First Draft at Charter Theater - a nonprofit organization devoted to developing theater audiences alongside new plays, support local DC artists and partner with theaters looking to produce new work - announced today that it will present two readings of the new play, "The Hashish Eaters" by Billy Finn, a dark, suspenseful story about a young American soldier stationed in Afghanistan who finds himself being pulled into the dangerous machinations of his commanding officer. The play, which is Finn's first, is based on true events as reported by the New York Times and Rolling Stone Magazine.

"I am incredibly excited that the Reading Series is providing the platform for Billy to make his playwriting debut," said First Draft Artistic Director Leslie A. Kobylinski. "'The Hashish Eaters' is a captivating blend of poetry, violence and fast-paced storytelling that grips and locks the audience in an ominous world that will leave them questioning the very nature of war and its effect on morality."

The October First Draft Readings will take place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, October 18th at Theater on the Run in Arlington, VA, and Tuesday, October 25h at the Arts Club of Washington. The series combines staged readings of new plays with a guided, post-show, audience discussion.

Billy Finn is a DC-based actor and writer originally from New York. Since moving to the area after college, Finn has performed at many of the top local theaters, including Folger Theatre, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Arena Stage, Round House Theatre, Constellation Theatre, Arts on the Horizon, Georgetown University, Virginia Shakespeare Festival and the Shakespeare Theatre Company. He is a member of Actors Equity Association, as well as a musician and stand-up comic.

First Draft at Charter Theater is supported in part by Arlington County through the Cultural Affairs Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources and the Arlington Commission for the Arts. The First Draft Reading Series is also made possible in part by the warmth and generosity of the Drama Committee of the Arts Club of Washington, and The Share Fund of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.

The organization's mission is to develop audiences alongside new plays; and support local artists and theaters looking to produce new work. For more information, visit First Draft online at www.firstdraft.org.
