The Bull Moose Theatre presents CARRY A BIG STICK by Paul Handy, a play about Teddy Roosevelt and the politics behind the Panama Canal. Directed by Catherine Aselford. Featuring: Terence Aselford, Tucker Bacon, Philip Baedecker, John McCaffrey, Robert Mark O'Brien, and David A. Schmidt.

Teddy Roosevelt, the accidental president after McKinley's assassination, wants to get elected in his own right. He wants to build a canal between the seas, but in Nicaragua? Over Mark Hanna's dead body!

All performances take place at The Warehouse, 645 New York Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. The show will run tonight, July 11, 2013, at 6:45pm; Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 10:30pm; Friday, July 19, 2013, at8:00pm; Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 6:45pm; Wednesday, July 25, 2013, at 8:45pm; Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 1:45 PM. About the playwright: Paul Handy also wrote Cry for the Gods [the overthrow of Hawaii's Queen], presented as part of the the 2011 Capital Fringe Festival and presented at Congress by the Hawaiian delegation. Other plays include: Let Freedom Ring [Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Montgomery bus boycott]; Full Truth [Thurgood Marshall's struggle against segregation]; and Merryman [Abraham Lincoln's arrest of southern sympathizers in Maryland], among others. Paul has also directed, acted in, and stage-managed numerous shows for various theatre groups in New Jersey, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, and was involved in the Capital Fringe Festival from 2008 to 2011. He is an administrative law judge for the D.C. Office of Administrative Hearings.

About the director: Catherine Aselford has acted or directed at Horizons Theatre; Cherryred Productions; The Shakespeare Theatre; Adventure Theatre; The Actors Center Company; New Works Theatre; Washington Theatre Wing; Notorious Women Productions; and The Georgetown Theatre Company (now, The Guillotine Theatre), of which she is Artistic Director. She has appeared in John Waters' A Dirty Shame, Cherryred's silent movie Trapped By the Mormons (Google it - it's real!), West Wing, Unsolved Mysteries, America's Most Wanted, and numerous television commercials. She has directed or produced at least one Capital Fringe Festival show each year from 2006 to 2011.Carry a Big Stick will be her eleventh Cap Festival show.
