AFT Conference Features Celebrities with Teachers Who Made a Difference in Their Lives

Three celebrities will honor the public school teachers who made a difference in their lives at a very special evening session on Tuesday, July 23, during the American Federation of Teachers' summer conference in Washington, D.C. The teachers are from Norfolk, Va.; Washington, D.C.; and Philadelphia.

MSNBC's Ed Schultz, host of The Ed Show, will be honoring Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.
Mezzo-soprano opera star Denyce Graves will be honoring Judith T. Grove-Allen, former Washington, D.C., public school teacher and assistant principal of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
Actor Tony Danza will be a guest speaker and will honor David Cohn, his co-teacher when they taught 10th-grade English at Philadelphia's Northeast High School. Following the event, Danza will sign his book, I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High.

The event will be moderated by Robert J. McCartney, columnist with the Washington Post.
