Shakespeare's Globe has posted a new video featuring the company of A Midsummer Night's Dream attempting to distill the entire plot into 60 seconds. The clip, part of the venue's promotional material for its Summer 2026 Season, plays up the comedic chaos of the task, with the description promising that 'hilarity ensues' as the cast races through the story's twists.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most performed comedies, weaving together three groups of characters, including young lovers fleeing into an enchanted forest, a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play, and a cast of meddling fairies whose spells send the mortal romances into disarray before dawn.
The production is currently running in The Globe Theatre, with the Globe citing a four-star review from The Guardian that called the staging 'hilarious and heartfelt.' Performances continue at The Globe Theatre through August 29, 2026.
The plot-recap video follows the release of a fuller trailer for the production earlier this year. That trailer offered a more traditional look at the staging, following the lovers, fairies, and mechanicals into the forest as spells go awry.
