In the hit musical, The Last Five Years, her songs travel back through time to that first meeting, while he travels forward in time to the bitter break-up -- a brilliant structure that lays bare the joys and frustrations and of a modern relationship.

The next day, grab a director and? tons of actors, rehearse those shows and perform them that night at 7:30. That's Pop-Up Plays, popping up for the second year at Town Hall Theater tonight, March 7th at 7:30pm. The whole event takes place in 24 hours, which makes it the freshest theater experience around.

All these, plus an imaginative hero who never gets the girl, show up in The Met's new production of Jacques Offenbach's masterwork. Les Contes d'Hoffman has been inspired by a variety of influences that reflect the opera's multiple dramatic layers-including Kafka, classic Hollywood cinema, and even Woody Allen. Town Hall Theater will broadcast this new production today, January 31st at 1pm.

DTF Sets Spring & Summer Youth Programs

Dorset Theatre Festival is about to kick off its fourth annual Jean E. Miller Young Playwrights Competition, which provides free playwriting instruction to area schools, and invites students to submit their work to be judged by a panel of nationally recognized playwrights. DTF educational director Ashley Connell will facilitate free workshops in area schools including MEMS, Maple Street, Long Trail and The Dorset School this winter with space still available for interested educators. These workshops will teach the basics of playwriting for middle and high school students and encourage them to create their own original works. Students will also have the opportunity to connect with playwriting mentors from Bennington College under the mentorship of renowned playwright Sherry Kramer.
