Town Hall Theater to Present A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 8/19-20

This summer has been a wildly creative time for the 84 kids taking classes at Town Hall Theater. THT'S stage has been filled with rock concerts, dance recitals and Broadway musicals, all performed by energetic, talented kids from the Middlebury area.

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company transforms its intimate OtherStages space into a warm and welcoming pub for the regional premiere of an engaging new play with music, The Road to Where, beginning August 13. Broadway's Cass Morgan wrote and stars in this true-life tale of a journey to rural Ireland that brought her a surprising new sense of 'home.' Fresh from its world premiere at the Geva Theatre in Rochester, New York, The Road to Where comes to Weston audiences with the hopes of productions in New York and around the country.
Vermont Cheesemakers Win Big at 2015 American Cheese Society Competition

Vermont cheesemakers took home 46 of the 355 ribbons awarded at the 2015 American Cheese Society Competition, including 13 for first place. Vermont Creamery, Jasper Hill and Farms for City Kids took home a combined 8 first place ribbons, with Vermont Shepherd, Cabot Creamery, and Sweet Rowan Farmstead each earning a first place win. Overall, 22 different Vermont cheesemakers placed at the annual competition, known as 'Oscar Night' for the American cheese industry.

Continuing a full tilt schedule of summer entertainment, Weston presents the legendary Broadway blockbuster Guys and Dolls on the MainStage starting tonight, July 31. Based upon characters and stories by Damon Runyon, and memorialized in film by the likes of Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, Weston's production features a requisite all-star cast and an iconic score which includes some of Broadway's most memorable songs, such as 'Luck Be a Lady' and 'Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat.'

   The Bible is a collection of stories, so it's not surprising that it's been the source for a number of Broadway musicals, from Jesus Christ Superstar to the recent Children of Eden.  Perhaps the finest example is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the delightful Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on a story from the Book of Genesis.

Dorset Theatre Festival's 2015 New Play Reading Series continues on August 3 with Chris Newbound's The Trouble with Nicole. Newbound is a Berkshire-based playwright whose full-length play Birthday Boy received its world premiere at Berkshire Theatre Group in 2011 and was recently published by Samuel French. Last January, Chris's play Cigars was given a staged reading at Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, New York, and in February, his short play, Just Friends, was selected as one of ten plays to be included in Barrington Stage's popular 10X10 new play festival, making it the second time a short play of his was produced there. He's had numerous readings of various plays at Berkshire Theatre Festival, Made in the Berkshires, Berkshires Playwrights Lab, and New Stage.
