Pentangle Arts and ArtisTree are thrilled to announce the opening of their collaborative stage production of CATS The Musical. The show runs from April 29th to May 8th, 2016, and features local and professional talent. Both organizations are thrilled to offer this rare opportunity to see CATS The Musical in the Upper Valley -- before it returns to Broadway this summer! The music is composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the story is based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, by T. S. Eliot. CATS ran on Broadway from 1982 to 2000, making it the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.

Lost Nation Theater opened a high-energy production of the musical HAIRSPRAY last week at Montpelier's City Hall Arts Center. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, HAIRSPRAY opened on Broadway in 2002 and went on to win eight Tony Awards.

Grace Potter Sets 2016 Grand Point North Festival in Burlington

Grace Potter announced today the lineup for the 2016 Grand Point North music festival, scheduled for September 17 and 18 at Burlington, Vermont's Waterfront Park. Potter will headline both nights and will be joined by Old Crow Medicine Show, Guster, The Wood Brothers, Kaleo, Blind Pilot, The Record Company, Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band and Eliza Hardy Jones, who also plays in Potter's backing band. 
Middlebury Community Players to Present A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM

It's a toga party!  Middlebury Community Players presents one of the brightest and funniest musicals ever written, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, at the Town Hall Theater, Middlebury, Vermont.  Opening April 28 and closing May 7, the show runs Thursday through Sunday the first weekend and Thursday through Saturday the second weekend.  Showtimes are 8:00 for April 28, 29, 30 and May 5, 6 and 7 with 2:00 matinees on May 1 and 7.  Tickets are $15 for the Thursday shows, $23 for all other performances ($18 for students with ID), and can be purchased at the box office, (802) 382-9222, or online at www.townhalltheater.org.  ASL interpretation will be available at the May 1 show.

Northern Stage & Dartmouth College to Launch Undergraduate Theater Training Program

Northern Stage, an award winning LORT-D regional theater in White River Junction, and Dartmouth College are proud to announce a partnership that will expand the collaborative exchange between the two institutions. Northern Stage has recently been granted Academic Theatre status by Actor's Equity Association, which recognizes the formal relationship between Northern Stage and Dartmouth, and provides each institution with a set of unique benefits. The two now join the ranks of other similar Academic Theatre partnerships such as Hartford Stage and the Hartt School, St. Louis Rep and Webster University, and Syracuse Stage and Syracuse University. "As a Dartmouth Theater Department faculty member, I know how important it is to teach our students to implement the tools and theories they learn on campus in a professional setting," says Northern Stage Producing Artistic Director Carol Dunne.  "This collaborative relationship will help our theater students make a bigger and more immediate impact on the American theater because they will have the ability to thrive in a professional setting."

Three theatres in one of the country's smallest states have a big idea.  Vermont's Dorset Theatre Festival, Northern Stage, and Weston Playhouse Theatre Company are creating an historic partnership to bring British playwright Alan Ayckbourn's celebrated comic trilogy, The Norman Conquests, to their stages in the spring and summer of 2016.  More than a year in the planning, the collaboration has three nationally prominent directors working with the same cast and creative team on successive productions of the three plays in White River Junction, Dorset, and Weston.

?The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company announces that it has received major support for its capital campaign from the Hunter Charitable Trust of Boston and the Loewe Foundation of New York. The Campaign for the Weston Theatre, which currently stands at $8.5 million, will build a flexible second stage on the five-acre Walker Farm in Weston to complement the award-winning company's programming at the historic Weston Playhouse.

Dorset Theatre Festival continues their Local First Festival of New Plays with a charming romantic comedy, A Kiss Like No Other by Brattleboro playwright, Steve Monroe.  The second in their Local First Series, this reading will be presented at the Bennington Museum on Saturday March 19th, at 12:30 pm.  Admission is free and all are welcome.  With a commitment to New Play Development, the Dorset Theatre Festival is excited to be able to showcase playwrights who come from our region inviting local audiences to participate in the growing of a new play.  
Town Hall Theater's Pop-Up Plays Returns

The process of creating Pop-Up plays is simple: 6 playwrights stay up all night writing a ten minute play, based on photos of their actors (many of whom they've never met) and random instructions called "curveballs". The next morning, the hot-off-the-press scripts are given 17 local actors and 6 courageous directors to rehearse and memorize in 10 hours.  Whatever they come up with premieres in front of a live audience that evening.
