Town Hall Theater's 1960's film series continues with a film that has been called a "touchstone for a generation" - Dennis Hopper's Easy Rider (1969).

The popular series has another 1960's connection - 1960's prices. All films are only $2.

Easy Rider is the key anti-establishment film of the period, a landmark that captured the national imagination. Hopper, Peter Fonda and a very young Jack Nicholson hop on their motorcycles and travel through the American South and Southwest in search of freedom. On the way they find flower children, pretentious intellectuals, rednecks, and, ultimately, tragedy.

This low-budget film is a gritty exploration of what it means to be an outsider in American society. As the trio encounters taunts and persecution, Nicholson's character famously remarks, "This used to be a hell of a good country. I can't understand what's gone wrong with it."

Nicholson was nominated for a best supporting actor Academy Award for his performance. It was the beginning of a legendary Hollywood career.

Easy Rider is also known for its groundbreaking use of music. The soundtrack features The Band, Jimi Hendrix, and Steppenwolf.

Easy Rider will be shown on the big screen at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Sunday, July 25, at 7 pm. Tickets are $2, and are available only at the door.
