Town Hall Theater Broadcasts Shakespeare's TIMON OF ATHENS Today, 11/6

By: Nov. 06, 2012

Shakespeare's most rarely-produced play, Timon of Athens, was a suprise hit of this London season at The National Theatre of Great Britain. Now the show comes to Vermont as Middlebury's Town Hall Theater broadcasts this production in HD today, November 6.

Simon Russell Beale, called the greatest living Shakespearean actor, plays the title role. Wealthy friend of the rich and powerful, patron of the arts, and ostentatious host, Timon outspends his resources, but feels he can always fall back on his many friends for support. When they abandon him in his poverty, he withdraws to a literal and emotional wasteland, as he plots one last act of vengeance on the morally bankrupt Athenians.

Director Nicholas Hytner sees many parallels between the play and today’s ostentatious rich, and has set his production in the world of banking - with great success.

Timon of Athens will be broadcast at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater tonight, November 6, at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $17 or $10 for students, and my be purchased at 802-382-9222, www.townhalltheater.org, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, noon-5 pm) or at the door.
