Shadow puppet master Jim Napolitano of Nappy's Puppets will perform Jack and the Beanstalk at Sandglass Theater in Putney, Saturday, March 13 at 2 and 4pm. This performance is part of the Winter Sunshine Series of family performances, a collaboration between Sandglass Theater, Crabgrass Puppet Theatre and Puppetwork New England.

Jim Napolitano's Jack and the Beanstalk is based on an Appalachian version of the famous folktale and is presented as a four-part mini-series. This American classic is accompanied by a roller coaster ride of short stories, vignettes and songs inspired by children's literature, traditional puppet theater, and the imagination of the puppeteer. The show features beautifully crafted shadow figures and is fast-paced, action-packed and full of laughs for all ages.

"Jim was the first performer we thought of as we were developing this Winter Sunshine Series at Sandglass," says Jamie Keithline of Crabgrass Puppet Theatre. "Jim takes an ancient and extremely challenging form of puppetry and comes up with shows that are hysterically funny and astonishingly skillful. It is rare to see this style of theater done so well. He is a very warm and engaging performer, an absolute master of his craft, and his shows are terrific for all ages."

Jim Napolitano's credo is simple: "When the curtain goes up, it's just the audience, the puppets and me; now it's time for some laughs. My most important goal is to show the audience a good time. And I think it is of the utmost importance that the whole audience and not just the youngest members have a fun experience. I believe that anyone one who takes the time to come to the theater with a little person should be entertained just as much as the ones they think the performance is for."

Connecticut native Jim Napolitano has performed around the country and around the world. He is one of the foremost practitioners of shadow puppetry in the US. In addition to his work in theater, Jim has considerable experience in television. His innovative shadow puppetry has been featured on the PBS show Between The Lions, and he has appeared on The Book Of Pooh, The Weinerville Chanukah Special, A Show of Hands and Stick Stickly, as well as programs for Scholastic Home Video and HBO Pictures. Nappy's Puppets last performed in the Brattleboro area as part of the 2004 Puppets in the Green Mountains Festival.

This performance is funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England states arts agencies.
