FOREVER PLAID to Play Middlebury's Town Hall Theater, 7/17-20

Before the restoration of Middlebury's Town Hall Theater was completed, the group created theater anywhere it could. In 2006 it performed the musical Forever Plaid in the dining room of the Middlebury Inn. The show was such a success that it then travelled to theaters all over Vermont

"We've always regretted the fact that so few people in Middlebury got a chance to see that show," says director Douglas Anderson. "The songs from the 1950's are so great, my cast was absolutely terrific, and it's one of the funniest musicals you'll ever see."

A sudden opening in THT's summer schedule prompted Anderson to get on the phone and reassemble the original FOREVER PLAID team. "Everyone was excited to do it again. It really is on the list of everyone's favorite musical theater experiences." So FOREVER PLAID is being remounted and will be performed at Town Hall Theater from July 17-20.

One of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory, the show centers on four young, eager male singers who form a singing group in the 1950's. Singing in the closest harmony, the Plaids summon up some of the most beautiful songs ever written, including "Love is a Many Splendored Thing," "Three Coins in the Fountain," "16 Tons," and "Rags to Riches." The lads do it all with their own quirky brand of comedy, which includes doing an entire Ed Sullivan Show in 3 minutes and 41 seconds. (Remember Topo Gigo? The Singing Nun?)

The revival stars some of the areas best performers: Bill Bickford (who played the Music Man at THT), Justin Bouvier and Leigh Guptill (who both recently appeared in Shrek at THT), and Middlebury college student Zac Lounsbury. Chuck Miller leads the band.

Forever Plaid will be performed at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater from Thursday through Saturday, July 17-19, at 8 pm, with a 2:00 pm matinee on Sunday, July 20. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at, at 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm) or at the door, if available.
