His father is one of the legends of jazz. And while Chris Brubeck has been strongly influenced by his famous dad, his music has struck out in directions that Dave Brubeck would never have imagined.

Chris Brubeck's Triple Play brings its unique brand of blues, rock, folk and jazz to Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, April 16.

Brubeck plays a variety of instruments - bass, trombone and piano - while contributing vocals. He's joined by Joel Brown (guitar and vocals) and Peter "Madcat" Ruth (harmonica and vocals). The All Music Guide notes that "all of them are experts in cross-pollinating several diverse forms."

The concert is sponsored by the After Dark Music Series, which is producing several concerts a year at Middlebury's newly-restored Town Hall Theater. "After Dark has made this place a venue for nationally-known musicians," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "And the room is really perfect for this kind of unplugged music."

Triple Play plays Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, April 16, at 7 pm. Tickets are $25, $27 at the door. For ticket information call 802 388-0216 or visit www.afterdarkmusicseries.com .
