Anne of Green Gables Opens Weston's Second Stage for the summer season!

On June 13, Weston Playhouse Theatre's Young Company of talented undergrads brings L.M. Montgomery's timeless classic, Anne of Green Gables, to life.

Anne Shirley is a spunky, red-headed orphan sent to live with a farmer and his sister in Avonlea, a close-knit community on Canada's Prince Edward Island. The only problem? The Cuthberts thought they were adopting a boy! Heartwarming and humorous, the hour-long musical follows Anne's adventures (and misadventures) as she discovers the true meaning of family, friendship, and home.

Written by Broadway veterans Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford (I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it On the Road), Anne of Green Gables opened Off-Broadway in 2007. Weston Artistic Associate/Director of Education Piper Goodeve, who originated the role of Anne, will assistant direct and choreograph. Founding Director Tim Fort (director of last year's Young Company production Really Rosie, and Tenderly) will direct.

For those who want more, writers Cryer and Ford host a talkback following the 4:00 pm show on June 15, plus a free June 16 morning workshop on how to write a musical. In a special June 16 evening event, the two will perform songs and share stories from their 63-year collaboration. These special events are made possible through the Dramatist Guild Traveling Master's program. Concert proceeds benefit Weston's New Works program.

Anne of Green Gables the Musical is a #VTarts2018 event and runs June 13-30 at Weston Playhouse at Walker Farm (705 Main St in Weston). Family-friendly show times are 4:00 pm Tuesday-Sunday and at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 16 only. Runtime is approximately one hour. To purchase tickets, call the box office between 10:00-6:00 pm at 802-824-5288, or by visiting westonplayhouse.org.
