Deborah Lubar returns to the stage in her much beloved one-woman show A Story's a Story in a benefit for the Addison County Parent Child Center on March 30 at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury.

In the play two old, passionate and singular immigrant women, long-time neighbors on the Lower East Side of New York City, ravel and unravel stories - sacred and profane, traditional and of their own making - which have shaped their lives. Rose Solomon, opinionated and peppery with a fiery sense of humor, is a Polish Jew who weaves through her own story the mystical tales of the magical leader of the Hasidim, the Baal Shem Tov; Luigina Ponzini, an Italian Catholic at the edge of death, prays to the Madonna for "one more miracle" and finds it in the stories of her own life.

In a show rich in laughter and in tears, they unearth the hardship and the heartbreak of their very particular lives, sustained throughout by enormous humor, a deep sense of the absurd, true courage, and their respective, unique and very unorthodox paths of "faith". Their friendship, it turns out, has been both balm and help in facing the great obstacles of their lives in the "new world": despite enormous differences of character and background they find themselves to be true sisters in spirit.

Deborah Lubar is an actress and playwright living in Lincoln who toured her one-woman shows widely to high critical acclaim. Some of her other performances were in Life and Fate, a story of the Holocaust; her own play Blood and Stones in which she portrayed six women - three Israeli Jews and three Palestinian; You Do What You Do by Marianne Lust about an eccentric and blazingly honest member of the German resistance against Hitler; and her last two: Eve's Version (which is just that -- the story of Adam and Eve from Eve's point of view) and Naming The Days, a surreal, magical, ferocious tale of three women displaced and disoriented by war, inspired by Deborah's work with women in Bosnia, which the Boston Globe dubbed a "masterpiece."

The one-night-only performance of A Story's A Story is on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 pm at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater. Ticket sales benefit the Addison County Parent Child Center, and are available at www.townhalltheater.org, 802-382-9222, or at the THT Box Office Monday - Saturday from noon until 5:00 pm.
