North Vancouver’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School Choir is teaming with the Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir, which presents their ‘Work of Christmas’ concert at Mount Seymour United Church (1200 Parkgate Ave) on Friday Dec 12, at 7:30pm. Tickets are available online at www.vancouverorpheus.org and at the door (if still available). Adults are $30, students $20, and children under 12 are free. Time: 19:30 - 21:30
The choir performance will be enhanced by instrumentalists - youth students from the Langley Community Music School, as well as professionals.
Orpheus patrons will welcome in the Christmas season, hearing pieces from solemn religious to upbeat secular pieces, and a couple of humorous songs to round out the program. It will be very evident how enjoyable the repertoire is both for the choir and its audience.
Orpheus has performed concerts throughout Metro Vancouver for over 30 years. This enthusiastic group of men is a favourite for many of the venues that eagerly anticipate their next event.
This year, the choir is celebrating 20 years under the direction of our Artistic Director Liana Savard, a very accomplished vocal music teacher. She has been putting the men through their paces in preparation for this concert season. Notably all songs are performed from memory which ensures a highly engaging concert.
Singing helps us express our apprehensions, sorrows, hopes and joys, particularly when our world is beset by conflict. Togetherness strengthens our resolve to overcome adversity and look positively into the future. The men of the Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir understand and appreciate how music lifts our spirits. No matter how they feel going into a rehearsal, they know they will feel reinvigorated when the singing is done. And that counts double for concert audiences. Without fail, they continue to be encouraged by the high praise and laudation after our concerts.
Sharing the joy of singing is part of the choir’s mandate. It follows that Orpheus has regular requests from concert venues for return performances.
