Who you gonna call... back? Genus Theatre celebrates their ten-year anniversary with the announcement of their latest production, a wildly inventive tribute to a beloved 1984 film. Waiting for Ghostbusters. November 21, 2013 - November 30, 2013, Renegade Studios 125 E 2nd Avenue between Quebec and Main Street.

Waiting for Ghostbusters is set in a rehearsal hall that was once the heart of the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company. There, a small group of artists with more determination than dollars set out to stage a faithful musical recreation of the acclaimed 1984 film. Quickly, tensions and conflicts rise as the struggling company faces sabotage, a clash of wills, legal realities, and a haunting of their own. By opening night the company will either stage a rocking, 1980s infused extravaganza in the best of off-off-off Broadway tradition, or it may finally be curtains for everyone involved...

Genus Theatre has thrived during the last ten years in the Vancouver theatre scene by producing works that both engage with and entertain diverse audiences. Since its inception Waiting for Ghostbusters has struck a chord with artists within the theatre community, leading to a tremendous interest from potential collaborators. Actors, designers and technical wizards have repeatedly expressed interest in being a part of this production and audience interest is just as high. The efforts on the part of all involved have resulted in a production that honors the treasured memories of every child of the 80s. Since 2003, Genus Theatre Company has been presenting original, groundbreaking productions that have incorporated both Live Theatre and integrated film/media elements. Genus has developed a reputation for producing carefully constructed projects that are both accessible and provocative. The company's work includes an array of successfully produced independent productions, and a rich history of collaboration with other companies and festivals.

An original production, Waiting for Ghostbusters is co-written by Frano Marsic and Kelly Sheridan, with direction by Victor Ustare. Featuring seven original songs with music written by Peter Abando, the production showcases eleven talented performers as they bring ghosts and ghouls to a live stage, all without aid of green screen.

Waiting for Ghostbusters premieres at Renegade Studios this November 21st. Tickets are $20 ($15 for students and seniors) and may be purchased at the door or in advance at www.brownpapertickets.ca
