Union Theatre to Present World Premiere of DUNCTON WOOD

London's UNION THEATRE is to produce the World Premiere of a brand new British Musical - DUNCTON WOOD - playing 27th May to 20th June 2015. Already acclaimed for innovative revivals and reinventions of well-known pieces and rarities, the Union Theatre now produces this ambitious work staged by award-winning director Michael Strassen.

When DUNCTON WOOD falls under a tyrant's rule the old beliefs and nature itself are under threat. For young Bracken, and the few others with courage, exile may be just the beginning of a long road home...

Magical, lyrical and animalistic this story of faith wars, youthful romance, freedom fighters, and deep friendship plays out in a woodland world torn apart by dictatorship and the battle to survive.

DUNCTON WOOD will be staged by Michael Strassen who was named Best Director at the 2014 'Off West End Awards' for BILLY at the Union Theatre, where he subsequently directed his acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim's PACIFIC OVERTURES. His previous work at the Union Theatre includes THE FIX, COMPANY and ASSASSINS (Best Production in 'Off West End Awards').

The premiere production of DUNCTON WOOD is supported by Arts Council England, and the Mackintosh Foundation; with thanks to the Really Useful Group Charities, Claude-Michel Scho?nberg and Smith & Brant Theatricals.

Josh Little as Bracken, Amelia-Rose Morgan as Rebecca, Trevor Jones as Hulver/Boswell, Anthony Cable as Mandrake, Thomas Thoroe as Rune, Anna Stolli as Rose the Healer, Oli Reynolds as Cairn and James Sinclair as Stonecrop with Sinead O Callaghan, Hugo Joss Catton, Robert Dalton, Nadia Eide, Rachel Flynn, Myles Hart, Rosie Ladkin and Kristian Morse.

MARK CARROLL (Music & Lyrics) is an experienced West End performer having appeared in the world premiere casts of MISS SAIGON and MARGUERITE, and more recently in JERSEY BOYS and MEMPHIS. As a writer, his musical THE ATTIC had its world premiere in Utrecht in 2014, SUPERNOVA has been presented in a workshop production, and ASTRONAUT is currently in development. He was the recipient of the John Lennon Award for Outstanding New Songwriter (PRS) presented by Yoko Ono.

JAMES PERIES (Book) has produced and directed hundreds of hours of output for BBC Radio Drama, and has also worked for BBC Television's Continuing Drama Series. His productions have won the Clarion Award, CRE Race In the Media Award, and Mental Health Media Award. He has led new writing projects at Theatre Royal Stratford East and Bristol Old Vic.

DUNCTON WOOD is adapted from the bestselling novel by WILLIAM HORWOOD - the first in his series of books chronicling the history and fate of a colony of moles. Further works include SKALLAGRIG, THE WILLOWS IN WINTER (beginning his continuations of Kenneth Grahame's THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS), his memoir THE BOY WITH NO SHOES, and most recently the epic HYDDENWORLD series.
