The Tron Theatre will welcome back Stellar Quines, the Scottish company that celebrates the energy, experience and perspective of women, to our main house space this spring with a new play by the award-winning comedian Lucy Porter.

Inspired by young women like Lucy Anne Holmes of the No More Page 3 Campaign, and Laura Bates of Everyday Sexism fighting for female equality in (what could still be argued is) a man's world, Lucy brings to the stage the true story of a secret Edinburgh Society - The Fair Intellectual Club - formed in 1717 by three young women determined to see what they might be able to attain if they cultivated their minds in the same industrious way that they adorned their bodies.

Members studied literature, science and philosophy, were sworn to absolute secrecy, and only marriage or death were deemed acceptable grounds for leaving the club. The Fair Intellectuals were however, betrayed by an enemy within, and the sisters were ultimately exposed to scandal, censure and ruin.

Working from the original notes and constitution of the club, Lucy has crafted a tale of teenage love, friendship and betrayal set at the dawn of the Scottish Enlightenment.
