Tim Foley's THE DOGS OF WAR to Premiere in London

By:

The Dogs of War, a new play from acclaimed playwright Tim Foley, will receive its London premiere at the Old Red Lion from May 26 to June 20, directed by Tom O'Brien. Tickets are on sale now with casting to be announced next month.

The team behind the sold out and critically acclaimed production of 'The Fastest Clock in the Universe' reunite at the Old Red Lion to stage Foley's brave dark comedy, which casts a light on the effects of mental illness in the family home.

The Herming family have moved to rural Northern Ireland - also known as the middle of nowhere. The Dad makes stuff in his shed, the Mam pops pills in her armchair, and Johnny the son avoids them both as much as possible. So far, so normal. But when Johnny comes home from university, everything has gone a little strange. For starters, the family dogs have turned invisible and Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt (and local resident) has arrived unannounced. While Johnny wrestles with all that is seen and unseen, an ongoing conflict with a nearby farmer will have untold repercussions for his parents...

Director Tom O'Brien said: "I first saw Tim's work in Edinburgh and I am delighted to be directing his London debut with the world premiere of this brilliant play. It is very exciting to be working with a writer who has such a distinctive voice and brave approach to storytelling. The Dogs Of War is a dark comedy that asks the questions - How do we avoid turning into our parents? How responsible are we for our family members - where do we draw the line? And how do we measure and identify madness? It is a volatile look at a group of people battling with the fear of change, isolation and separation."

"Tim Foley is an exceptional talent... The production is so excellently written and executed that it had the audience wanting not seconds, but a taste of what is next on the menu." - Broadway World

Tim Foley has written four plays for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival: 'Newton's Cauldron', 'Scene of The Titans', 'The Goddess of Walnuts' and 'Meat'. The Dogs of War marks his London Debut.

Tom O'Brien's recent credits include the sell-out 21st anniversary production of 'The Fastest Clock In The Universe' - "An outstanding revival. Director Tom O'Brien's production is disturbingly, inescapably sexy" ***** Fourth Wall Magazine, The UK tour of 'Our Friends, The Enemy', 'The Wedding Singer' (The Lowry) and 'Judy, The Righteous' (King's Head).

The production is produced by Stage One Bursary Award recipient Robin Rayner in association with David Adkin (Sweeney Todd; Our House)
