The Marlowe Studio In Canterbury Announces New Season, Feature Two New Plays Produced By The Marlowe.

The plays will run in repertory at The Studio in the run up to Christmas. Both have been written by The Marlowe's Literary Associate James Baldwin. The first is The Naughty Fox (Friday 7 to Sunday 23 December), a heart-warming play-along story, recommended for children aged 6 months and over. Drawing on James's experience of creating multi-sensory stories with soft toys for children in hospitals, this magical tale will transport audiences to a frozen Garden Of England. There they'll meet the Naughty Fox, and be taken on a magical journey to learn about sharing.

The other play, which is for adults, is ...If We've Never Been To The Moon? (Friday 7 to Sunday 23 December). This follows Noel, a man on a quest: to find the man who filmed him falling over in 1989, sent the video to You've Been Framed, and didn't share the cash. Now, Noel has decided he wants his money. His journey takes him to Deal, and into the strange world of moon-landing conspiracy theories.

James said: "I'm over the moon that The Marlowe are supporting this Christmas rep. Presenting two plays with the same actors performing in each is a brilliant way to make new work in the studio this Christmas. I'm excited to make these new shows, in Kent, inspired by Kent."

Another highlight of the new studio season is Re:Production (Wednesday 17 October), a new play about reproductive choices by White Slate Theatre, prompted by the 40th anniversary of the first successful IVF treatment. White Slate are based in Canterbury, and are a Marlowe Supported Company.

One of the two performances of Re:Production will involve a new innovation for The Marlowe: A parent- and baby-friendly performance, which allows adults to enjoy the show in a baby-friendly environment.

There's plenty more drama, including Pop Music (Thursday 22 and Friday 23 November), a gig-theatre extravaganza, and To Have To Shoot Irishmen (Tuesday 30 October), a play with songs about the Easter Rising. There's also The Studio's usual music and comedy offerings. In music, there's everything from the Hackney Colliery Band (Thursday 20 September), to solo singer-songwriter Scott Matthews (Friday 19 October), to avant/jazz-rock from Soft Machine (Saturday 3 November). In comedy, there'll be the return of Abandoman (Wednesday 10 October) and Felicity Ward's new show Busting A Nut (Thursday 25 October).

Autumn is also the first full season for a new venue, The Marlowe Kit, located in the former Canterbury Heritage Museum, on Stour Street. Shows there will include a regular poetry slam night, LicKitySpit (Wednesdays 17 October, 21 November and 19 December), run in association with Wise Words. The Kit will also be a space for music and drama performances. In the opening season, these will include A Hundred Different Words For Love (Saturday 13 October), a moving and funny story of a quest to find the right words to make sense of love, and concerts by Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble (Sunday 7 October), and folk singer Kitty Macfarlane (Friday 2 November).

Tickets for all of these shows are on sale now. For performance times, ticket prices, and to book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787, or go to marlowetheatre.com. Please note, age recommendations are in place for some shows.
