The Italian Theatre Festival Returns to The Coronet Theatre

By:

After a sell-out success in 2018, the Italian Theatre Festival returns to The Coronet Theatre to celebrate some of Italy's most distinguished writers and performers.

Two days of events and shows with distinguished authors, playwrights and actors:

Fabrizio Gifuni pays tribute to Shakespeare's Prince of Denmark in Remember Me: Homage to Hamlet.

Marco Paolini expands on his study of the character of Ulysses in Odysseus Filò.

Greta Scacchi, Alessandra Vanzi and Lucy Russell, will go through Three classic Italian short stories by Natalia Ginzburg, Elsa Morante and Fabrizia Ramondino.

Giuseppe Battiston presents Winston vs Churchill by Carlo G. Gabardini, an intimate portrait of the man and the politician.

The second edition of the Italian Theatre Festival in London, the first ever festival of Italian Theatre conceived by the Italian Cultural Institute, has the purpose to share with an international audience the best of today's Italian theatre scene. All shows will be in Italian with English surtitles.

The Festival will run on the 7th and 8th of June, taking place in the heart of London, at the Coronet Theatre in Notting Hill.

The Italian Cultural Institute in London will host a preview of the Festival on the 6th of June: the screening of Andrea Segre's last movie, L'Ordine delle Cose., followed by a Q&A session with the director and with the screenwriter Marco Pettenello, as well as a short monologue performed by actor Giuseppe Battiston.

The Italian Theatre Festival is a project organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

The idea of the Festival was conceived during the year 2017/2018 at the Italian Cultural Institute, where a series of encounters - conversations, readings and live performances - took place with the aim of presenting to the British audience an authoritative overview of Italian contemporary theatre. Italian actors, playwrights and directors, both acclaimed masters and successful new voices - including Sonia Bergamasco, Fabrizio Gifuni, Luca Zingaretti, Marcello Magni, Emanuele Trevi, Massimo Popolizio, Iaia Forte, Fausto Paravidino, Valerio Binasco, Ramin Gray, Mark Ravenhill, Dominic Cooke and Haydn Gwynne, to mention but a few - talked about their artistic research and conversed with important figures of British contemporary theatre. The Italian Cultural Institute's Director Marco Delogu has consistently encouraged the promotion of contemporary Italian culture in London, and theatre clearly has an important role. After more than 20 Contemporary encounters, the time had come for a Festival, and what better venue than an established London theatre, the Coronet, in the heart of town, for the first edition of this event, which took place in August 2018.

Less than a year later, the second edition is ready to start on the 7th and 8th of June 2019.

Today, Marco Delogu introduced the second edition of the Festival.
