THREE MEN IN A BOAT Plays Belgrade Theatre This Month
Following a sell-out tour in 2012, The Original Theatre Company, producer of the critically acclaimed UK and Irish tour of Birdsong, is delighted to announce that Three Men In A Boat will be making a splash in Coventry from Tues 14th - Sat 18th October. Sailing onto the Belgrade main stage for one week only, this brand new touring production visits Coventry as part of the 125th anniversary year of the publication of Jerome K Jerome's classic novel and has been adapted and directed and directed by Craig Gilbert.
In an attempt to escape the stresses of city life, three friends, J, Harris and George, accompanied by their faithful canine companion Montmorency, decide to take to the river in order to relax and rejuvenate. The holiday, however, quickly unravels and descends into chaos.
Originally intended as a guide to boating on the Thames, Jerome's ripping yarn of youthful friendship, mischief and folly celebrates the very essence of Britishness. In Craig Gilbert's production, this classic tale of boating misadventure comes complete with a working pub, live piano accompaniment, some ale, music hall singing, a dog and a lot of physical comedy.
Alastair Whatley, director of the Original Theatre Company, said, "Jerome K Jerome has been accused of writing the funniest book of all time. Now, 125 years later, it still has the power to make people laugh uncontrollably in public places. Craig Gilbert's adaptation also manages to make people laugh uncontrollably, but in the safety of a theatre."
The cast of Three Men In A Boat includes Anna Westlake, Tom Hackney and Alastair Whatley. Three Men In A Boat has set design by Victoria Spearing, lighting by Alan Valentine, sound by Giles Thomas, movement by Matt Bugg and musical direction by Tim Van Eyken.
Three Men In A Boat will play on the Belgrade main stage from Tues 14 - Sat 18 October. Performances are eves at 7.45pm, Wed and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets for Three Men In A Boat are priced from £9 - £21.25. Tickets are available from the Belgrade Theatre Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or online via www.belgrade.co.uk where tickets are cheaper.
