Sheffield Theatres will welcome Sheffield People's Theatre to the Crucible stage for the world premiére of The Sheffield Mysteries, from Tuesday 15 July to Saturday 19 July.

Set in the heart of the city, with a cast of 94 local people aged 11 to 85, this brand new play takes audiences on a journey from construction to regeneration, through the seven hills, the Moor Market, building sites and football clubs, exploring famous stories with a modern Sheffield twist. Inspired by the medieval mystery cycles, traditionally performed in locations including Wakefield and York, The Sheffield Mysteries takes a frank and funny look at the human spirit through stories and songs. A celebration of all things Sheffield, this summer's production promises to delight audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Directed by Sheffield Theatres Artistic Director, Daniel Evans (Oliver!, This Is My Family, My Fair Lady), and written by Sheffield-born Pearson Playwright Chris Bush (20 Tiny Plays About Sheffield, TONY! The Blair Musical), The Sheffield Mysteries are performed by Sheffield People's Theatre, an inter-generational company comprised of local actors, singers, dancers and musicians of all ages and walks of life.

Director Daniel Evans commented: 'The community is at the heart of this play and I am thrilled to be working with a company of 94 talented and dedicated performers from across the city on this exciting new production. With this play, Chris has taken some of the world's oldest stories and re-imagined them with a very modern, local twist. This is going to be our last major production on the Crucible stage this season and I am thrilled that we have created such an epic work to bring the season to a conclusion.'

The Sheffield Mysteries comes to the Crucible Theatre from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 July. Tickets are on sale now, priced at £15.00 (concessions available) and can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office in person, by calling 0114 249 6000, and online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk. A transaction fee of £1.50 (£1.00 online) applies to all bookings made at the Box Office, excluding cash.
