The Paper Cinema will perform their acclaimed Odyssey show for the 100th time at TOM The Old Market this September. Supported by the British Council, Odyssey is a feature film created from paper, with minute puppetry projected live onto the big screen.

In the past 18 months, Odyssey has travelled across land and ocean, performing as far afield as London, Lisbon, Tokyo, Baku and Brussels. It has played to venues as diverse as major film festivals, art centres and museums. Truly, this has been an epic journey for the British company.

Odyssey is the latest in a series of visually stunning, imaginative and inspiring performances at TOM The Old Market. It follows on from acclaimed performanes earlier this year, such as 1927's The Animals and Children Took To the Streets and Les Enfants Terribles' The Trench. TOM is therefore delighted to be hosting the spectacular Paper Cinema, and especially proud to host their milestone 100th performance.

Back in 2004, The Paper Cinema's enchanting concept grew from the music scene, and a desire to create suitable visual accompaniments. Then, remembers artistic director Nic Rawling, "when we started using the filmic elements with the camera, it became its own film." In fact, the entire performance of Odyssey is underscored by live musical accompaniment. Musical director Christopher Reed explains "It's about creating this language that is the link between music, sound and live animation. With the paper we can make this synergy or synthesis where we can tell a story without having any dialogue. We can convey a lot of emotion and movement."

The Paper Cinema creates unique, magical performances that combine the languages of animation, music, film and theatre to lead the viewer through a variety of stories. Intricate pen and ink illustrations are skillfully manipulated in real-time in front of a live video camera and projected onto the big screen alongside live music, which is integral to the work.

The Paper Cinema's Odyssey will run Thursday 19, Friday 20 & Saturday 21 September, 2013 at 7:30pm. Tickets: £12.00 [10.00]. Available: TOM's Box Office online, on 01273 201 801 and in person during opening hours.
