On Thursday 17th March 2011, the church of St Martin in the Fields will celebrate the exuberant passion and mystical beauty of the Irish soul, in a programme of music to mark St Patrick's Day. The musicians from one of London's top groups, the Locrian Ensemble, will be joined by internationally recognised soloists and the talented Chamber Choir of Newtown School, Waterford.

Special soloists for the concert, which commences at 7.30pm, include:

Jean Kelly (harp) who has performed with Irish musicians as diverse as Boyzone, Phil Coulter and Sir James Galway. Jean plays Celtic harp and played on the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings films.

Dermot Crehan (violin) who has won the coveted award, 'All Ireland Champion fiddle player'. Dermot is renowned for his work as a folk fiddler, appearing on numerous film sound tracks and television scores. His solo work can be heard on films including The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Patriot Games, Harry Potter, Legends of the Fall, Mrs. Brown, Charlotte Gray. His unique sound can also be heard on recordings with Miriam Stockley, Carl Jenkins, Elton John, Bliss, Sting, Westlife, Il Divo and Ronan Keating.

The evocative programme will include a new Celtic piece for solo cello, harp and orchestra by Julie Cooper, called "Cariad" performed by Irish cellist, Justin Pearson. The composer Paul Honey has set beautiful Irish tunes into a suite for solo violin and strings, The "St Patrick's Suite". The Chamber Choir from Newtown School Waterford , who are undertaking an extensive tour of the UK, will sing traditional Irish melodies, conducted by Anne Barry. The evening will end in energetic fashion with a ceili finale.
