Southbank Centre Closes BESIDE THE SEA

By:

Lisa Dwan will star in the world premiere of BESIDE THE SEA, a one-woman play written by Veronique Olmi and translated by Adriana Hunter. Performances are Wednesday 7 & Thursday 8 March at 7.45pm at the Southbank Centre in London.

Beside The Sea will be directed by Irina Brown and is produced by Mighty Mouth Productions. Design is by Louis Price with lighting by Kevin Treacy.

This production launches WOW – Women of the World Festival, which celebrates the formidable strength and inventiveness of women, and runs from 7 – 8 March 2012 at the Southbank Centre

Beside The Sea is about a mother who is driven to the extremes of mental and physical despair. Examining the themes of filicide with tenderness and bravery, this is not only a story of irrational fear, where love crosses the border into violence, but also a fearless meditation on maternal love.

Lisa Dwan’s most recognised stage role is in Samuel Beckett’s Not I, performed to critical acclaim at the Southbank Centre in 2005 and 2009, directed by Billy Whitelaw. Lisa’s television credits include Fox series Mystic Knights, RTE’s Fair City the big Bow Wow and ITV’s Rock Rivals. Her film credits include Walt Disney’s Oliver Twist with Richard Dreyfus and Elisha Wood, John Boorman’s Tailor of Panama and Bhopal – A Prayer For Rain, alongside Martin Sheen, which is due for release this year.

Irina Brown is an opera and theatre director, teacher and dramaturge. She was Artistic Director of Tron, Glasgow from 1996 to 1999 and Joint Artistic Director of Natural Perspective Theatre Company from 2007 to 2011. Her theatre directing credits include War and Peace at the Circus, Giffords Circus Tour, Desire Lines for Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, The Importance of Being Earnest for the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, Jenufa at the Arcola Theatre and Further than the Furthest Thing at The National Theatre/Tron/Edinburgh Festival/Tricycle Theatre. Irina’s opera credits include War and Peace at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow and Edinburgh Festival, The Letter for the Scottish Opera and Bird of Night for the Royal Opera House.
