Soaking WET Dance Series Presents Catherine Tharin Dance
The Soaking WET dance series, curated by David Parker and Jeff Kazin, will present Catherine Tharin Dance in a program titled "History Doesn't End," - 4 dances, 2 premieres by Tharin. The four segments that make up the full evening work are Still Center, Dark Moons, You Who Arrived(premiere), and History Doesn't End (premiere), all segments linked in their desire to reveal quiet truths.
"The dances come from the language of my body, as well as from observations of the movements and relationships of my dancers," notes choreographer Tharin. "The work expresses intimacy with the self and others, the immediate present and close past. There is a sense of continuum reaching back and moving forward. Evoked are small secret delights and unspoken fears, the immediacy of affection, fondness, attachment, and reliance."
composer: Richie Greene
poetry: Rilke History Doesn't End (premiere)
composer: tba Still Center
composers: John Cage, John King Dark Moons
composer: John Cage Costumes by Sue Julien. CATHERINE THARIN was a soloist with the ERick Hawkins Dance Company from 1988 to 1994, originating roles and touring nationally and internationally with the Company. She spent 20 years at Iona College, where she distinguished herself as a lecturer, teacher of choreography, dance history, Hawkins dance technique, and somatics, as well as serving as director of the Iona College Dance Ensemble. Ms. Tharin is currently Curator at 92Y Harkness Dance Center, where she has programmed hundreds of choreographers, composers, dancers, musicians, set designers, and more. As a choreographer, one of her latest works, A Natural History, seen on the Soaking WET series, was described by Martha Sherman as "a reverie of sisterhood, where the duets and trios have a sweet interconnected energy, and the solos focus on a powerfully feminine strength and fullness....Tharin herself is an elegant mover."
