SOMEONE TO BLAME Opens at King's Head, London

The world premiere of verbatim theatre project SOMEONE TO BLAME by Tess Berry-Hart will be directed by David Mercatali, designed by Gregor Donnelly and lighted by Richard Williamson and will play from March 6-31 at the King's Head Theatre in London.

Recent RADA graduate Robin Crouch will make his stage debut as Sam Hallam, who was tried and convicted of murder in a London street fight at the age of 17 and has spent the past 7 years in prison protesting his innocence. He maintains that he wasn't even there and there has been a massive campaign to get his conviction overturned as a miscarriage of justice, and Sam Freed.

To highlight Sam's case, The King’s Head Theatre, director David Mercatali and writer Tess Berry-Hart have produced a verbatim piece of theatre, Someone To Blame, using police
interviews, court transcripts and independent interviews.

With little education and no funds, Sam was at the mercy of the justice system and two eye-witnesses, one of whom retracted his accusation in court, and another who admitted in court that when she accused Sam, she had been looking for “someone to blame.” The campaign for Sam’s release has taken his case to the Criminal Cases Review Commission and an independent police enquiry, whose findings have been so significant that the case has now been referred back to the Court of Appeal.
