SHREK The Musical comes to The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, next month on its first tour of the country.

Direct from London (where it was seen live on stage by nearly a million people), the production is based on the award-winning DreamWorks animation film and brings the much-loved characters to life.

Dean Chisnall stars as beloved swamp-dwelling ogre Shrek, the role he previously played in the West End; Faye Brookes is damsel-in-distress Princess Fiona; Idriss Kargbo plays Shrek's wisecracking sidekick Donkey; and Gerard Carey is pint-sized villain Lord Farquaad. They will be joined by a full company of fairytale characters.

Shrek The Musical features new songs, as well as the cult anthem, I'm A Believer. It is directed by Nigel Harman, who starred as Lord Farquaad in the West End production, winning him the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.

Shrek The Musical opened on Broadway in 2008 before touring to nearly 150 cities in the USA and Canada. Productions have also played in China, Israel and across Europe.

Shrek The Musical is at The Marlowe Theatre from Wednesday 11 February to Sunday 1 March (various performance times). Tickets, priced from £24 to £46.50, (concessions available; booking fee applies) are from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or marlowetheatre.com. It is suitable for those aged five and over.

There will be signed, captioned and audio-described performances (see the website for details).
