A Christmas Carol, based on the book by Charles Dickens, combines traditional ballet and captivating theatre to tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his magical night with three terrifying ghosts. Colourful sets and costumes by Olivier Award-winning Lez Brotherston conjure up a traditional Victorian Christmas, while the festive score blends classical music with carols, played live by Northern Ballet's Sinfonia and sung by the dancers. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the production!

Northern Ballet's Artistic Director, David Nixon, said: "Restaging what has become a signature piece from the era of former Artistic Director Christopher Gable demonstrates our commitment to preserving our heritage by performing key words from our repertoire. A Christmas Carol has delighted audiences nationwide for more than a decade. It is a great festive production that appeals to the whole family."

A Christmas Carol was created in 1992. It was originally directed by Christopher Gable (Northern Ballet Artistic Director from 1987 to 1998) with choreography by Massimo Moricone, scenery and costume design by Lez Brotherston, music by Carl Davis and lighting design by Paul Pyant.

Northern Ballet is renowned for its full-length narrative productions. The company are committed to touring throughout the UK and overseas, developing new audiences for dancE. Northern Ballet is based in a centre of excellence for dance in Leeds. Their award-winning headquarters on Quarry Hill is the largest purpose-built space for dance outside London.

Northern Ballet's A Christmas Carol is at The Marlowe Theatre from tonight 29 October to Saturday 2 November, with performances at 7.30pm, and Thursday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets, priced from £17 to £39.50, are from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or at marlowetheatre.com.
