Nice Swan Theatre Company Announces 2013 Gala, April 21

Nice Swan Theatre Company - a North East based productions company which also runs a successful performance Academy are staging a large scale Gala night for one night only in aid of charity.

Over 100 musical theatre and dance students from the region are coming together to perform at the Peoples Theatre on Sunday 21st April as a celebration of the talent within the North East of England. The event will feature many fantastic performances from well known West End and Broadway musicals including Miss Saigon, Sister Act and Oliver and some newer releases including The Book of Mormon and Matilda. This great range show numbers will be performed alongside a selection of stunning dances sequences. The evening will also include performances from specially invited guest artistes including award winning singer, musician and composer Katie Doherty (who won the Journal Culture Newcomer award and has performed with artistes such as Nitin Sawhney, Kathryn Tickell and Howard Goodall), upcoming soul singer Beth Macari who has recently had her sell out EP launch in Newcastle and Newcastle College dance troop TILT with an innovative contemporary performance.

The event which is being sponsored by R&B Group - a theatrical and event services company based in the region will be supporting the Make a Wish Foundation which is a charity that grants wishes to children and young people who are suffering from life threatening diseases in the UK.

Gala 2013 is being produced by Jamie Gray, the man behind Nice Swans recent productions of Shakespeare's Macbeth in February of this year and the North East premiere of Hair the Musical in September 2012 which both received rave reviews from theatre critics. Jamie is working with a team of directors, choreographers, musical directors and a large number of production staff to make sure this show is something special. "Gala 2013 is larger and harder than any existing musical given the big range of content and the sheer amount of performers and creative staff involved - but I'm so excited about this show!"

Nice Swan Theatre Company have built a reputation within this region of producing high standard, updated, risky shows which not many companies in the area would dream of touching. The company have worked with over 100 students since the launch in 2009, all gaining the experience needed to progress in the world of theatre and used Nice Swan shows as a platform to push themselves to further education or employment in the industry. Jamie adds "we have so much talent here in Newcastle and the surrounding areas and I think that its something that should be showcased and celebrated regularly".

Gala 2013 is being choreographed by Nice Swan Theatre Company resident choreographer Stephanie Smith who has recently finished working with stars of Strictly Come Dancing Katya Virshillas and Pasha Kovalev.
