New Adventures bring Matthew Bourne's internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning dance thriller The Car Man to the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 23 - Saturday 27 June, as part of a limited UK tour.

Loosely based on Bizet's popular opera, the action is transported from the familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory, to a greasy garage-diner in 1960's America where the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.

Featuring one of the most thrilling and instantly recognisable scores in New Adventures' repertoire and inspired by classic European and American Film Noir cinema and the Pulp Fiction novels of James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler; Lez Brotherston's epic design, Chris Davey's evocative lighting and Matthew Bourne's vivid storytelling, create a dangerous and uncompromising vision of small-town America.

The Car Man won the Evening Standard Award for Musical Event of the Year and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for Best Choreography when first seen in 2000 and follows the phenomenal worldwide success of Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker!, Cinderella and Edward Scissorhands; from the UK's most popular dance theatre company.

Matthew Bourne's The Car Man is at the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 23 - Saturday 27 June. Tickets are priced from £18.00 - £37.00, and can be purchased by calling the Box Office on 0114 249 6000 or by visiting sheffieldtheatres.co.uk (a transaction fee of £1.50 (£1.00 online) applies to all bookings made at the Box Office, excluding cash).
