Hofesh Shechter Company Presents SHOW

The Hofesh Shechter Company presents SHOW, a wild and mischievous performance in three acts: The Entrance, Clowns, and Exit. SHOW is performed by Shechter II, the apprentice company of the celebrated choreographer, for dancers aged 18-25.

The production received its UK premiere at the Lyric Hammersmith in May 2018, amidst an extensive national and international tour to leading venues and festivals in Italy, France, Russia, Luxembourg, Georgia, and Switzerland. The Shechter II dancers also participated in East Wall, a large-scale spectacle of dance and live music at the Tower of London, in partnership with East London Dance, Historic Royal Palaces and LIFT, in July, and performed Shechter Underground at Somerset House in August.

Combining Hofesh's bold, exhilarating and tribal choreography with a pulsating score, SHOW revolves around a group of anarchic performers as they play their parts in a macabre circus of comedy, murder and desire.

SHOW offers a bitingly comic vision of a topsy-turvy world where fools can be kings, and kings can be fools, performed in the company's unique and unforgettable theatre-dance-rock-gig style. Clowns originally debuted to rapturous acclaim at Nederlands Dans Theater in 2016 and now returns alongside new material by Hofesh Shechter.

Over 1,000 dancers auditioned for Shechter II, and the final eight, drawn from the most inspiring young talent across the world, represent the very best of the next generation of contemporary dancers. They are Riley Wolf (UK), Juliette Valerio (France), Zunnur Sazali (Singapore), Adam Khazhmuradov (Belgium), Natalia Gabrielczyk (Poland), Emma Farnell-Watson (UK), Robinson Cassarino (France), and Neal Maxwell (Switzerland).

Shechter II received the 2017/2018 Prix de la critique award for Meilleurs Interpre?tes - Best Performers - for SHOW at The?a?tre des Abbesses in Paris.

Shechter II builds on Hofesh Shechter Company's firm commitment to nurturing young artists. Few up-and-coming dancers have the chance to perform in different spaces to different audiences supported by an experienced creative and technical team, and Shechter II allows dancers at the early stages of their career the opportunity to be mentored by long-standing HSC members and have access to world-renowned venues and the stability of an apprentice salary.

SHOW is produced by Hofesh Shechter Company. Clowns was originally commissioned by NDT (2016). SHOW is produced in association with HOME Manchester and Lyric Hammersmith - and received production support from Fondazione I Teatri Reggio Emilia and a production residency at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Brighton.
