"As a lawyer, I've had to learn that people aren't just good or just bad. People are many things."

Paul Biegler isn't looking forward to becoming a defence attorney but his first case is sensational: a Lieutenant is accused of murdering the bartender who allegedly raped his wife. It's a high-stakes battle of wit and determination as Biegler uses every device to save the officer's neck.

Initially released as a novel by Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D.Voelker under the pseudonym Robert Traver, Anatomy of a Murder was turned in to a critically acclaimed film starring James Stewart in 1959. An intense trial-based play, it is ideally suited to For Short.'s uniquely up-close style of theatre performance.

Anatomy of a Murder marks For Short.'s first production in the development of the company's Elevator platform scheme that aims to create industry opportunities for young and emerging talent in the UK. Rehearsals begin on the 20 May 2013, and will see the ensemble taking part in workshops with established industry professionals such as Malcolm Sinclair and Susannah Waters. For Short. work under the official patronage of Simon Russell Beale and Mark Rylance, who has said of the company, "I applaud this new initiative. These artists are busy being born."

For Short. are a young theatre troupe who turned to disused spaces when unable to afford more traditional theatrical venues. For Short. specialise in adopting pop-up locations for their charm and function to perform appropriate plays, letting art truly reflect life. They have received acclaim for their visceral staging of new and published works, including Dennis Kelly's Orphans and Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West:

"A company on the pulse of the new age of exciting theatre" - Sydenham Post.
