Jule Styne

Starring a stellar cast of West End stars and created exclusively for The Crazy Coqs "Everything's Coming Up Roses" celebrates the man behind some of the most iconic music of Broadway's Golden Age - Jule Styne. Featuring hit songs from musicals such as Gypsy, Funny Girl, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes & Bells Are Ringing plus some rare undiscovered gems, this evening promises to delight and dazzle audiences with songs such as 'People', 'Don't Rain On My Parade', 'Diamond's Are a Girls Best Friend' and of course 'Everything's Coming Up Roses'.

Devised & directed by Alastair Knights (Putting It Together, The Elaine Paige Show), featuring new arrangements by Musical Director Alex Parker (Stephen Ward, Putting It Together, The Pajama Game) and starring Anna Francolini, Simon Bailey, Tim Flavin & Laura Pitt Pulford it promises to be a night of sheer musical theatre bliss.

Jule Styne ranks as one of the undisputed architects of the American musical theatre. He developed his feel for popular music working with the jazz bands of 1920s Chicago and as vocal coach to such 1930s Hollywood stars as Shirley Temple and Alice Faye.

Teaming with lyricist Sammy Cahn in the 1940s, he created a string of Hit Parade leaders including the Oscar-winning "Three Coins In The Fountain."

In addition to Sammy Cahn, Styne's collaborators include Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Stephen Sondheim, Bob Merrill, Leo Robin and E.Y. Harburg,

SEPTEMBER 9 - 13

Making their debut at Crazy Coqs, the nation's favourite impressionist, Alistair McGowan, and musical actress and wife Charlotte Page, combine forces in Sincerely Noel in which they bring to life a personal selection of songs and poems by Noel Coward.

Under the crisp direction of Brendan O'Hea and with the skilled Musical Arrangements of Warren Wills they breathe new life into some classic Coward and showcase some of his more obscure work.

The songs include Mad About The Boy, Never Again, I Believe, We Were Dancing and Alice Is At It Again.

The poems - many dramatised for the first time - include the touching Honeymoon 1905, the terrible sadness of Reunion in which a husband and wife realise the damage that war has done to their relationship, Social Grace (in which Coward encounters an hilariously over-enthusiastic fan) and the epic 'Not yet The Dodo' in which two upper-middle-class parents are forced to come to terms with their son's homosexuality.

McGowan is probably best known for his BAFTA-winning show, 'The Big Impression' but he has also acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company and taken lead roles in West End Musicals - 'Cabaret' and 'Little Shop of Horrors' and in West End plays 'Art' and 'Pygmalion'.

Last year he undertook a 50-date UK stand-up tour of his show, 'Not Just A Pretty Voice'. He also took part in the first ever gig performed in the UK in French by two English comics when he accepted Eddie Izzard's invitation to support him in Sheffield. Most recently, he has been appearing on 'The One Show' analysing British accents and has just completed a 16-week tour playing Henry Higgins in 'Pygmalion' to rave reviews. He has also written a

Want to see the real Barbra Streisand? Steven Brinberg's fans think that he gets closer to the superstar than she does. Due to phenomenal demand, Steven Brinberg returns to Crazy Coqs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Funny Girl, which opened on Broadway in 1964 and came to London two years later. The internationally acclaimed film version, which was nominated for 8 Tony Awards, followed in 1968. Musical director Nathan Martin and a different West End guest star accompany Brinberg each night.

Steven has been acclaimed for his vocal performance of Barbra Streisand for over a decade around the world. In addition to touring all over America he has also played extensively in England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, Spain, Mexico and Canada...more cities then the real Barbra!

He has also appeared in numerous symphony concerts with the late Marvin Hamlisch and sang at Stephen Sondheim's birthday concert at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. He has released two CDS Live in London and Duets and has appeared in films such as Camp and Boys Live and in a concert version of Funny Girl on Broadway, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.

Jazz singer Babs Savage whose unique, smokey, deep voice and exuberant personality is truly unforgettable, makes her Crazy Coqs debut with her show Kisses From Chicago.

Babs will be singing some of her favourite jazz numbers such as My Baby Just Cares For Me, The Way You Look Tonight, Well Alright OK, The Look of Love, Too Close For Comfort, One Note Samba, So Nice, The Lady Is A Tramp, as well as her own songs that swing with jazz, samba and bossanova beats including Mr Wonderful, Hot Apple Pie, I Believe (Babs new single,) Can't Contain Me, Firecracker, Happy Day and Do Tell Me.

Babs will also be performing songs from her newly released album co-written with one of Chicago's best male vocal performers Rickey Rainbow and the cream of jazz musicians from Chicago.

Babs Savage has been a recording artist from the age of 15 and performs in Europe and records in America. She performs all over London from private and corporate events to favourite nightspots including Novikov, The Playboy Club, The Arts Club, The Embassy Club and the Camden Record Club. She performs at the Hampstead Festival twice a year.
