CeeLo Green Coming to The Marlowe Theatre in May

By:

MULTI-award-winning singer CeeLo Green is coming to Canterbury next month (May).

The gig at The Marlowe Theatre is just one of three he is playing in the UK and launches the theatre's new contemporary music season, Music At The Marlowe.

CeeLo is a five-time Grammy Award-Winning singer-songwriter-producer, television personality, actor, entrepreneur, pop culture and fashion icon. In 2011, he received five Grammy nominations for his worldwide hit Forget You (winning the category for Best Urban/Alternative Performance). He was given the Outstanding Achievement Award at the UK MOBO Awards, 2015

CeeLo first came onto the music scene as a member of the southern hip-hop group Goodie Mob along with Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo. After CeeLo's success with Goodie Mob, he reinvented himself and formed Gnarls Barkley with deejay-producer Danger Mouse to release the 2006 worldwide hit Crazy, which reached number one in various singles charts worldwide. In the US, Crazy reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Following Gnarls Barkley, he put his time back into his solo career as CeeLo Green and released the 2010 album The Lady Killer, which featured his hit single Forget You.

CeeLo released his solo album Heart Blanche last year. It features the singles Robin Williams; Sign of the Times; Music To My Soul and Work. He also featured on Kendrick Lamar's new album Untitled Unmastered, contributing his vocals to song Untitled 6. In addition to his success as a recording artist, CeeLo completed four seasons as a coach on NBC's hit show The Voice alongside Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

With his live band, Ceelo will be performing material from his new album, along with the hits, at The Marlowe Theatre at 7.30pm on Monday 30 May. Tickets, which cost £59.50 and £69.50 (booking fee applies), go on sale to Marlowe Friends tomorrow (Thursday) and the public on Saturday. Call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com. Please note, under 14s must be accompanied by someone aged 18 or over.

Along with The Marlowe, CeeLo is playing the London Palladium and Mutiny Festival, Portsmouth.

He is the latest in a dazzling array of performers to appear on The Marlowe's main stage in the past few years. These include Van Morrison, Texas, Elvis Costello, Hugh Masakela, The Waterboys, Joan Armatrading and Nick Lowe. The Marlowe Studio hosts everything from the new acts of BBC Kent Introducing, jazz, cabaret, indie and folk.

In the next few months, Music At The Marlowe will see acts such as Billy Ocean, Russell Watson, Ernest Ranglin, Matt Cardle, Jocelyn Brown, Icons of the 80s (featuring T'Pau, Nik Kershaw and Go West), Elaine Paige, Billy Bragg and Dr Hook playing the main house. Peter Howarth, Robyn Hitchcock and Glenn Tillbrook are among those playing The Marlowe Studio.
