Belgrade Theatre Goes Green for 2018

With 12-16 February marking Go Green Week 2018, the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry is getting on board with the campaign with some brand new schemes to help reduce its environmental impact. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be implementing a combination of creative measures focusing on reducing, reusing and recycling across our various departments.
Firstly, following the huge success of our Christmas panto, we're offering people the chance to take away a piece of the magic of Cinderella, helping us to cut down on waste in the process. If you popped into the theatre over the festive period, you might have noticed the glittery "glass slippers" decking our halls. But with the decorations having now come down, we're inviting members of the public to give them a good home and claim their own pair of sparkly new shoes!
Not only is this great for reducing waste, for a registered charity, it's also a brilliant opportunity to raise funds, with a suggested donations of around £5 per pair given away. To arrange a time to pop into the theatre and find a pair that fits, contact the Belgrade's Development team by calling 024 76 846 750 or emailing development@belgrade.co.uk.
This month, the Development department are also simultaneously fundraising and helping the environment with a new mobile phone recycling scheme. Working together with Recycle4Charity, they'll be collecting mobile phones from members of staff here at the theatre for recycling, receiving a small donation in exchange for each one. You can find out more about the company handling the recycling at: www.recycle4charity.co.uk/MobilePhones.
raised from donations will be put towards a range of projects designed to enrich local communities in Coventry, including an array of youth and community theatre groups, extensive educational and outreach work, and creative development programmes such as the Springboard scheme. You can find out more about the Belgrade's charity status at: www.belgrade.co.uk/support-us/why-we-are-a-charity.
Finally, the theatre's Community and Education department are currently in the process of developing a bespoke online database to manage the growing number of participants of all ages engaging with their programmes. In addition to increasing efficiency, improving data security and making systems more user-friendly for both staff and participants, this will also significantly reduce the department's use of paper-based forms and registers.
These new projects and ideas continue our long-term commitment to responding creatively to the ongoing challenge of reducing our environmental impact, working towards a more sustainable future for all.
