BLINK Comes to The Marlowe Theatre Tonight
BLINK, a funny, dysfunctional and voyeuristic love story, comes to The Marlowe Studio next month (February).
By award-winning playwright Phil Porter, Blink is the tale of Jonah, Sophie, and a fox called Scruffilitis. Against the lonely backdrop of London, the worlds of two shy individuals collide and unfold.
New writing powerhouse Soho Theatre and internationally-acclaimed Fringe First winners nabokov, have recently successfully taken Blink to London and Bangalore.
Blink was commissioned by Soho Theatre when Porter was part of the Soho Six, a scheme which brings together six diverse writers with the aim of creating work for one of Soho Theatre's three stages. Porter also won the Bruntwood Playwriting Prize for Cracks In My Skin and the Arts Council's Children Award for Smashed Eggs (Pentabus Theatre, Sulis Theatre & Theatre Royal, Northampton).Blink stars the exciting young actors Thomas Pickles and Lizzy Watts. After training at Rose Bruford, Pickles has performed in two productions with the RSC (Merry Wives Of Windsor, The Mouse And His Child) and was most recently in Derby Theatre's production of Kes. His television credits include Channel 4's hit show Shameless.
Lizzy Watts recently starred as Olivia in Filter Theatre's Twelfth Night, which went on to tour the UK and internationally. She has also worked largely with new writing companies including Paines Plough (Wasted), Finborough Theatre (The Man) and Bush Theatre with Mike Bartlett's Artefacts (also a nabokov production).
Blink is directed by nabokov Artistic Director and Soho Theatre Artistic Associate Joe Murphy. His previous credits as Director include Young Pretender (Edinburgh Festival/ UK Tour), Bunny (UK Tour, Soho Theatre & 59E59 New York Brits Off Broadway), and The Boy On The Swing (Arcola Theatre). As Associate Director: Henry V (Shakespeare's Globe Theatre), Punk Rock (Lyric Hammersmith/ UK Tour), The Laws of War (Royal Court), and as resident Director Ghost Stories (Duke of York's, West End).Blink is at The Marlowe Studio at 8pm tonight 7 and Saturday 8 February. Tickets cost £12, with concessions and Discovery Tickets (for those aged 16 to 26 and full-time students over 16) available. To book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com.
