Transient and Trifling is the kinky cabaret-theatre show bringing BDSM to Brighton Fringe. After a string of sold-out shows in London, this convention-defying collective will be stepping onto the altar in St Augustine's Arts and Events Centre for four performances.

Transient and Trifling aims to support and represent the BDSM community through live performance in ways that are approachable not only a kinky audience, but for all consenting adults over the age of 18. "it has never and will never be about shocking audiences, nor is it about displaying fetish as some flashy sellable product," says Madeleine Margot, the show's producer. "We put our emphasis on the 'why'. Through Transient and Trifling, we confront misconceptions around BDSM lifestyles. More than anything, it is about human connection."

For Brighton Fring, the cabaret's all-kinky, all-queer cast and crew will bring a mix of brand-spanking new acts and revered numbers from their previous shows. Expect pole dance before stained glass, burlesque and bondage on historic stone floors, and kinky political protests beneath St Augustine's arches.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is adding a daytime showing at 1:45pm. "I want to bring BDSM into the same spaces that any other performance could happen at," says Margot, "to reach a diverse crowd, to perform in accessible venues... we want to demonstrate that our stories and our art can belong there just as much as any other."

Catch Transient and Trifling at St Augustine's Arts and Events Centre on May 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
