Applications Are Now Open for PULSE FESTIVAL IPSWICH 2017

The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and Festival Directors China Plate are delighted to announce that applications are open for the 17th annual PULSE Festival Ipswich, which will take place from Thursday 1 to Saturday 10 June 2017. From this year, the festival will be sponsored by local company Harrison C White.

PULSE Festival is a part curated, part open call 10 day festival focusing on new and innovative approaches, offering a bright and inspiring snapshot of Contemporary Theatre and performance. Applications for the open call are now live for finished pieces, the Suitcase Prize and Scratch Performances.

The festival provides a platform for the development and presentation of new work by regional, British and International Artists, and aims to nurture artistic ambition and excellence across a range of art forms. The 2017 PULSE Festival Ipswich will present work across a variety of genres, from theatre to dance and everything in between, in various forms from tour-ready work to rehearsed readings, and works at an advanced stage of development. The festival programme will be a mixture of work sourced through this open call application process and invited work.

Now in its 17th year, PULSE Festival Ipswich has presented new work from a host of local and International Artists and companies includingGecko, Talking Birds, Lucy Ellinson, Made in China, Caroline Horton, Victoria Melody, Chris Goode, Mark Thomas, Daniel Bye, Chris Thorpe, Action Hero, UrsulA Martinez, Bryony Kimmings, Two Destination Language, Greg Wohead, Analogue, Wendy Houstoun, Babakas, New Art Club, GaggleBabble, Christopher Brett Bailey, Paines Plough, Rowan James and Tim Crouch

The New Wolsey Theatre is pleased to announce the continuation of the successful PULSE initiative: The Suitcase Prize on Friday 2 June. Aimed at encouraging theatre makers to think in an environmentally and economically sustainable way, the only stipulations are that the work must be able to tour on public transport in luggage carried by the people taking part in the piece! The Suitcase Prize will award £1000 to a bold and adventurous idea, with all artists shortlisted for the prize also having the opportunity to present their work at the Festival in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Previous winners have included Two Destination Language's Near Gone, Antler's If I Were Me, The Pretend Men's Police Cops, and On The Run's Tell Me Anything.

Scratch Performances take place on Saturday 3 June. This Scratch Day will support and showcase new 20 minute long works-in-progress, exploring new practice and new ideas, providing a vital development platform for works in development.

In addition, the New Wolsey Theatre today announcing their relationship with local company Harrison C White, who will sponsor PULSE Festival Ipswich for the next three years.

Applications are now open, and can be submitted using the online application form at www.pulseipswich.co.uk. The deadline for applications is Friday 6 January 2017 and applicants will be notified by Friday 3 March 2017. Applications for this open call must be new professional work or work by a new and emerging company, it can be finished or still in development.
