ANYONE CAN WHISTLE Revival Plays The Jermyn Street Theatre Through 4/17

The Jermyn Street Theatre in London revives the musical ANYONE CAN WHISTLE as a part of its 2010 season. The production, which began performances March 10th, will play through April 17th, 2010. The show will feature a team of musical direction and arrangements by Tom Attwood, design by Morgan Large, and will be directed by Tom Littler.

In a bankrupt town in a recession-hit country, the citizens are rebelling against the corrupt Mayoress Cora Hooper. She comes up with a devious plan to reverse her fortunes and keep the town under control. But she reckons without the feisty young Fay Apple and the mysterious stranger Hapgood, who has his own plans for the town and the people who live there.

ANYONE CAN WHISLTE features music and lyrics by acclaimed composer Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents, who also directed. The show opened on Broadway April 6th, 1964 and closed merely a week later on April 11th. It played a total of 12 previews and 9 performances. The show starred Angela Lansbury as Cora Hoover Hooper and Lee Remich as Fay Apple.

The creative team is also the team behind the hugely successful Saturday Night, which, after a run at the Jermyn Theatre, transferred to the West End. The production will feautre a full band. Casting is yet to be announced.

Performances for ANYONE CAN WHISLTE take place Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday at 3:30pm. Tickets range in price from £15.00 to £18.50 and may be purchased through the Jermyn Street box office at 020 7287 2875.

The Jermyn Street Theatre was once the changing rooms for the staff of the Getti Restaurant (formerly the Spaghetti House Restaurant) upstairs. In late 1991, Howard Jameson had a vision - to transform the space into a luxury Studio Theatre in the heart of the West End. Materials, expertise and services to the value of £280,000 were donated by 56 British companies and with major donation from Laings Builders, our challenge was complete. We opened our doors in August 1994. In 1997 our efforts were further rewarded by a National Lottery Grant from the Arts Council of England, enabling us to provide even better facilities for our customers.
