In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the MGM Movie classic "The Wizard of Oz," THE CIVIC LIGHT-OPERA CO. proudly presents the international musical comedy concert sensation SONGS IN THE KEY OF OZ.First staged in San Francisco in 2011, the show is performed by popular Toronto musical theatre entertainers JOE CASCONE and DAVID HAINES. It will be presented on August 15th at the Papermill Theatre, marking 80 years to the date of when the film was initially released. SONGS IN THE KEY OF "OZ" chronicles, through song, the past century of stage and screen productions of L. Frank Baums "The Wizard of Oz" and its related musical works. From the earliest Broadway musical of 1902, written by Baum himself, through several of his other OZ musicals, to the famous 1939 MGM movie version starring Judy Garland, up to more modern works like THE WIZ and WICKED! We even stop at other Oz oddities along the way like some of the delightful animated features and even a North Carolina Theme Park, THE LAND OF OZ.Messrs. Cascone and Haines have a long history with all-things-Oz, and have performed this exciting musical at several Oz conventions throughout the U.S. and Canada, and as part of the theatrical season of Torontos own CIVIC LIGHT-OPERA CO. to great acclaim wherever it has played.The upcoming presentation takes place on Thursday, August 15th at 8 pm at Papermill Theatre, 67 Pottery Road, located in the Todmorden Mills complex.
