We invite you to enjoy the family friendly performance of three new one act plays on the theme of love and transformation inspired by the Tarot, Commedia dell'Arte, and fairy tales. There will be a rotation of special musical guests to accompany the performance.

The Empress by Sandra Cardinal playfully looks at the "good fairy" trope through the lens of female empowerment and archetypes borrowed from the Tarot. The play asks, what good is success if you cannot enjoy it? Cardinal is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, and her work has been presented at Alumnae Theatre, Toronto Fringe, Festival Players, and InspiraTO. Starring Glenda Bell (Edith in Blithe Spirit at Mortar & Pestle), Aleksandra Maslennikova (New Ideas Festival at Alumnae; InspiraTO; NSK Theatre)

Death Meets Harlequin by Nina Kaye is a lively comedic piece that integrates music, Commedia del'Arte, and Tarot archetypes. Newcomer David Montesdeoca stars as Harlequin alongside the indie darling Thomas Gough (Polonius in Hamlet at Hart House; Mr Borden in Blood Relations at Alumnae; Grey in Donors at Safeword; Don in Human Furniture at Storefront; Leonato in Much Ado at Single Thread). Playwright Nina Kaye completes the acting team.

The Red Deer by Nina Kaye, inspired by the Irish myth of Finn Mac Cool, tells the story of love and enchantment. Directed by Glory Dearling, a circus artist and graduate of York U drama, the performance features clowning techniques and cross gender casting to comment on the absurdity of gender roles in classic fairy tales. Starring Aleksandra Maslennikova, Aaliya Alibhai, and Natalie Kaye.
