TSO And Lang Lang Announce Program Change Image

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) welcomes back superstar pianist Lang Lang on March 1, 2018. The evening will feature a revised program: instead of the previously announced Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3, Lang Lang will share the keyboard with Maxim Lando-a Lang Lang International Music Foundation Scholar-in a special arrangement of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. "I've invited a friend to help present this piece in a very special way," says Lang Lang, who is recovering from tendinitis in his left arm. "With the exciting young talent Maxim Lando, we hope to delight the audience and take a little pressure off my left arm while it continues to heal."

The March 1 concert-taking place at Roy Thomson Hall at 7:00pm and conducted by TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian-will begin with Dukas's tone poem The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The TSO will perform this work together with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO), showcasing the next generation of musicians to highlight Lang Lang's continued advocacy for music education. "I strive to dedicate as much of my time and talent as is possible, to provide the same opportunities I was given as a young boy, to children all over the world," he explains. The TSO will also perform Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2. Lang Lang and Lando will not only join forces for Rhapsody in Blue...they will also offer a few musical surprises!
