By: Gabrielle Sierra
Randie Parliament, Artist Producer, announced today that the company will be producing Mart Crowley's ground breaking drama The Boys In The Band. The production will run for seven public performances beginning March 1, 2011 at Buddies In Bad Times - Tallulah's Cabaret. With an stellar cast headed by two time Dora Mavor Moore Award nominee Matthew Romantini in the role of Michael.
THE BOYS IN THE BAND - Its Harold's birthday and everyone is invited! The party takes place at the New York loft of Michael (Matthew Romantini) who is always the gracious host. A home which spirals him further and further into debt while being accompanied by alcohol to wash the blues away. The festivities begin on a high note. Full of camp songs, dancing, witty remarks and an early birthday gift, but quickly turn when Michael's conservative college friend, Alan, unexpectedly drops by. Once the birthday boy arrives, amidst all the chaos, the party and the games begin. The Boys In The Band was originally produced on Off-Broadway in 1968 and ran for 1001 performances. Its depiction of homosexuality and Catholicism were geared towards a mainstream audience and its success on stage lead to an award winning film version in 1971. It is believed that the playwright was financially supported during the writing of the play by Natalie Wood.
